Dear DC:

Please produce an Atom Archives volume two for this reason: It is pretty much the only archive with a yellow design! You have done too many blue, red and purplish borders. This makes my Archives shelf look weird. Some more yellow would definitely help, so make another Atom book soon.

Thank you,
--Krypto

And while we're on the subject of the look of the shelves, I really prefer looking at those titles that have a nice block of several volumes, so please hop to it and get some volumes 2, 3 and 4 out there for the series that are still at volume 1. There's a good fellow.
And could you come over and dust occasionally?

While I'm anxious for Atom v2 also, you could always boost your yellow inventory with New Teen Titans v1 and the forthcoming Challengers v1.

The Earth Tones are completely unrepresented. I suggest applying some earth tones to Sandman, Adam Strange, Sugar and Spike, and GA Hawkman. And, as James noted, volumes look sickly if there aren't at least 3, so no skimping.

Could you have this done by next week? Thanks!

Yeah. Well there is the khaki of Enemy Ace... so I wouldn't say completely. I wanna see something in tan, brown, coral, or dark red-orange.

And getting past the frivolous tone of my original post, I do have something to add from my personal experience about #2's...

I remember when Green Lantern #1 and Flash #1 came out, and I almost completely ignored them. I didn't buy them. I didn't know at the time if they would fly, or if DC would just drop them, with that one volume. I didn't buy either line until they were up to the third volume. I just needed to see that it wasn't a fluke, that DC was going to follow up on those two characters, and that I wasn't going to end up with but one of each. Now I have all seven volumes of those guys. But it was almost as if I needed to see DC's commitment to continuing those archive lines before I'd get them.

For the past couple years, it's been easier for DC to sell me a number one because I've been feeling that they will indeed follow up on the series. However, now that there's a LOT of lone stars out there, and they're all competing with one another for that monthly slot, I'm starting to once again feel leery about purchasing #1's.

DC, you NEED to follow up! If you're going to put out a new Archive, we need to see that you're committed to continuing it! Let's see some number twos this year, for crying out loud!

Urrrr, like GA Flash (cough, cough)! Doggone guys, I was just getting over my disappointment when you bring up such an obviously logical point! Don't do that!

It only enrages me more than DC isn't giving us Vol. #2 of Jay's stories this year!

OK, let's have those #2 volumes of Golden Age Flash, Blackhawk, The Atom, Hawkman, and Supergirl--and make it snappy: we got customers waiting!

And just to make it clear, even though I've devoted alot of time recently to trumpeting the cause of my two fave's from the Golden Age, GL & Flash, they aren't my only concerns.

Bottom line: I'd buy the second volume of each of the lines that James mentioned. They really are overdue - it's just that Flash is the most overdue and should get top consideration, IMHO.

I'm with Gary, who's with Krypto.

The commitment factor aside, I generally like waiting for a volume 2 for a slightly different and quirkier reason.

First volumes are such a tease. You spend all these years hearing about how cool a given title is, the Archive is announced, you wait three months, save your pennies, camp outside the store on Wednesday morning, and then...it's all over in 200 pages. Bye! See you in a year or two! And that's assuming the sales are sufficient to warrant prompt continuation.

It's much the same reason I don't read many short stories or novellas. If it stinks, I wasted time. If it's great, I want more -- right away. The Atom was great. Hawkman was great. Aquaman was as close to bliss as a hardcover comic collection is likely to get me.

Now I want to get Doom Patrol. Maybe even this weekend. But I know I'm going to like it, and I know 200 pages isn't going to cut it. So I'm thinking of just re-reading Legion from book 1. Now that's an Archive series; enough volumes to choke a horse.

But not a super-horse, eh? Seriously, Comet and I, and the rest of the super-pets, love our Legion Archives books and read 'em over and over in our super-pet doghouse.

* * *

I forgot to mention that besides my finally getting SA Green Lantern and Flash lines when the third volumes came out, I also did the same with Plastic Man! Yep, didn't touch 'em until the third book was announced. Commitment. It was DC's commitment to that line that made me want to buy it. Now I have volume four as well, and will get a fifth if it comes out this year. Commitment is a reciprocal thing.

I feel the odd need to reiterate what I said about the #1's. I bought Supergirl, Doom Patrol, World's Finest, New Teen Titans, Atom and Hawkman #1's with the faith that DC would follow up on all of those. With World's Finest, I was rewarded very soon. But for the rest of them, so far, no go. Maybe I should have held off on buying all those books! Many of my friends here want to follow up on GA Flash, GA Starman, and other, more recent #1's. So...DC...???

Sign me up for an ATOM ARCHIVE VOL. 2. I have always considered the ATOM series the best work of Fox & Kane.

Not a huge fan of the Atom character, but Gil Kane is one of my favorites, so I'm all for another volume. Howver, if given a choice between another Atom archive or another Gal or Flash archive, I'd pick Gl or Flash in a second...

If they decide to produce a Metal Men archive, wondering what color will they have for them? Silver? or Gold? or even Yellow?

I'm also looking forward to this one.

Just to whet your appetite, here's a mock-up of this volume that I collaborated on with srca for DStepp's last survey:

The mock-up for THE ATOM ARCHIVES Vol. 2 could be improved only by mentioning that the Mighty Mite's JLA compeers also put in an appearance.

You bring a very good point KryptoSuperDog:

"I remember when Green Lantern #1 and Flash #1 came out, and I almost completely ignored them. I didn't buy them. I did the same thing when the 1st Silver Age Flash Archive came out (I can't wait for volume 4!). Now, since I noticed that some series seem to come out way faster than others (Legion, All-Star),I try to buy as many of the new archives that comes out, hoping that I'm doing my part to coax DC into bringing out more volumes.

My top 5 Archive volume 2 that I will buy as soon as they come out:
1) DOOM PATROL v.2 (when they started doing the Archive volumes, they were three series I was really wishing for: D.P., Atom and Kirby's Challengers which is supposed to come out this year! Never stop hoping for your pet projects guys!)
2) SGT. ROCK v.2 (more Russ Heath!)
3) ATOM v.2 (Some of the best Gil Kane!)
4) T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS v.2 (maybe not this year...)
5) GOLDEN AGE STARMAN v.2 (For the nice Burnley art and because Robinson's version was the best comic book ever!)

They do indeed appear briefly at the end of the Dr. Light story in issue 8, as it segues into JLA 23 (we saw the other half of this encounter in JLA Archives 4).

Atom #2?

Can't wait.

But if you're looking for Earth tones, the Golden Age Sandman Archives could have a nice brown, to match his shoes....

I guess you're right...I guess the only way for them to know what we want is to buy the #1's. DC has a definite commitment to getting through the All-Stars. Legion and JLA seem to come out more regularly, and also Plastic Man. I can't stress enough to them, however, that when I buy a volume one, I'm really saying that I want a volume two, three, four and so on. I don't want Atom, Hawkman, Doom Patrol, Supergirl, etc., to be lonely!
